Description
This new, easy trail follows the Davidson River up from the Lowe's in Brevard, to the Davidson River Campground. Makes it possible to ride from downtown Brevard onto Pisgah's trail system without following a road. Easy; nearly level; hard packed crushed gravel surface. Nice riverside scenery; passes a large rock cliff at one point. Would make an excellent beginner or even first-time ride; trails around the campground could be used to explore further if desired.
The trail does have some signage issues - if you go strictly by what's posted, then bikers have to turn around upon reaching the Art Loeb trail at the Joel Branch bridge (or start carrying their bikes). That really makes no sense though - there's no reason bikes shouldn't be allowed from there to the bridge over the Davidson River, and then to the Art Loeb trailhead parking. Having that one section closed to bikes would defeat the whole purpose of having a multi-use trail connecting to Brevard, so I've ridden it anyway.

Data Formats
KML (Google Earth)
KML is the main file type used by Google Earth. If you have Google Earth installed, clicking the KML link should open the trail or point directly in Google Earth for viewing. This is the native file format used by Google Earth, but many other map applications can use and understand KML as well, so if you're not sure which one to download, KML is a good bet.
GPX
The GPX format stands for GPS Exchange - a free, open, XML format for exchanging GPS and map data. GPX is compatible with Google Earth, many other mapping programs, and most GPS devices (such as Garmin). Load the file directly into your GPS to help find your way on your next trip!
GeoJSON
GeoJSON is a newer, lightweight data exchange format which can be used to quickly share map data and may have a smaller size than KML or GPX. Many professional mapping and GIS applications support the GeoJSON format.

Jorg Ronke said: 16 Mar 2013... a beautiful morning for a stroll along the Davidson River. Spotted a mating pair of Canada Geese on the river; possibly looking for a nesting site? We don't typically expect to see them in fast water locations, but these two evidently like the serene location as much as my wife and I do. A wonderful trail for a stress-free stroll. We look forward to seeing Spring growth and a return trip. A highly recommended easy trail for taking a break from the day to day pressures we sometimes face.
